All that I can remember is that it takes place in a war-like setting, and thee humans are being attacked by a race of huge mutant bugs. It came on adult swim a long time ago.

The anime sounds like Blue Gender: http://myanimelist.net/anime.php?id=58 . I feel weird, because this is the second question in like 15 minutes that seems to ask about this anime.
I can't really think of any other adult swim title that fits this description better though.
