Not very likely, but it's possible. Some people have 2 eggs release at the same time automatically. Others get their multiples by taking extra hormones from the doc, or artificial insemination. You can have your husband donate sperm and basically inject it so the sperm all have a better chance to get at the egg. Look into it!

More than likely not. Someone in either family has to have had twins somewhere. There are many women that use invirto-fertilization to have twins if they have none in the family but its expensive.

You dont need twins in the family to make twins. Certain kinds of twins run in families, but not all. Any woman can have twins. She could have a fluke ovulation and ovulate twice in one month, or one egg can be fertilized by two sperm.

My best friend has had two sets of twins with no other twins in either family.

Having said that, it is common to get twins with fertility treatments (clomid, ivf, etc). Unfortunately, triplets are also common.

People taking fertility pills, heredity and age are the main factors in having twins. Unless you are having problems getting pregnant most doctors won't prescribe fertility pills to you. Most women release one egg a month and some release two. It isn't something that you can determine yourself.

Where do you suppose the first set of twins came from?

It isn't "mandatory" for twins to run in the family.

Hope for a healthy pregnancy, single or twin.

No, it's not manditory. One of the shows on TLC had the stats on twins last week, but I don't remember. But, yes, it can happen completely randomly.
