You don't have to assume that you'll end up with a c-section. You will most likely be able to deliver a baby, regardless of how big your baby is, if the doctors don't interfere too much.

But if you do have a c-section, you will get an IV to hydrate you, spinal anesthesia, and bring you to the OR. They will probably shave the incision area and wait until you can't feel from your boobs down. They will probably give you something to reduce nausea, it will taste like a sweet-sour candy (actually, it's very gross but that's what they say it will taste like). Your arms will probably be strapped down. Once you are all numb the operation starts. There will be a curtain up so you can't see, but you can ask for the curtain to be lowered so you can see the birth. The anesthesiologist will be behind the curtain with you so he or she can make sure you stay alert and that the medication is working correctly.

You will feel tugging and pressure but you should not feel pain. Some women feel that they can't breathe -- tell the anests. but it will most likely be normal and harmless. In about 30 minutes your baby will be born and they'll show you the baby, take him to be measured, weighted, and evaluated and then bring him to you so you can give a kiss.

Then they will finish the operation. You may shake or shiver but this is normal and a reaction to the hormones. When you're all set, they will perhaps hand you your baby so you can hold him as you go back to the recovery room.

There really is not such thing as having to small of a pelvic bone. Your body isn't going to make a baby bigger than what you can handle. I had an 11# 2 ounce baby and didn't need stitches. It all depends on the position you are in when you deliver. If you can be in squating position your pelvis will open up more allowing more room for baby to come out. I think doctors just like to do c-sec because they can charge more money. The U.S. has the highest c-sec rate of any other industrialized nation. Our c-sec rate is 33%. That is 1 in every 3 women need a c-sec. Why is this?

only in rare cases are women too small to have a baby vaginally. my grandmother was 4 feet 7 inches tall and delivered my mom vaginally in korea. pretty much all asian women are tiny tiny tiny and they don't all go have c-sections.
God made the woman's body able to deliver her baby, the body changes and adapts to accomodate it.

you should do some reading on it before you decide for sure about a c-section. i'm small, five two one hundred and ten lbs and i will definitely not have an elective c-section just for the convenience of it. there are more and more reports about how they are done way too often in america and maternal death rates are on the rise because of them.

good luck with whatever you decide!
