I don't know how inspirational this is, but it's been a warning to me and has helped me numerous times in my life: "No good deed goes unpunished." Just the thought of that, when I'm found in a situation where I could offer to help someone, inspires me to act accordingly. Not exactly what you wanted to hear, but, this phrase has saved my behind numerous times.

The only constant is change - if things are bad, they will get better (in ways you do not know) and if all is clear - keep an eye out. Hope that this was helpful.
