It is always safe to assume that dilute solutions, for example sodium chloride solution, have the same specific heat capacity as water itself - 4.18J/g/deg C.

that would be a differential equation, unless you know the concentration of NaCl and the temperature of the water. The heat capacity will decrease with increasing salt concentration.
