So you know if the answer given by the machine makes sense.

If you are expecting an answer of 5 and you get either 0.005 or 5000 you know you should look into it further.

An estimation is a check, generally a near approximation. It will indicate what you might expect the final answer to be.

Measurements are not estimated, costs of doing the job is estimated.
