ask for it to become low key now, when he agreed with them at the start.
could it be that its because the media are turning on them.
there was a time this was about madeleine.?
if my child was missing God forbid, i would keep the childs profile high, even when the press started asking awkword questions, i would be too busy trying to find my child, to be worried about allegations being put on me.
but then thats just me, i do care about my children, and would never put a night out with my friends, and a drinking session before my presious children

lexi you strike me as a decent person, i mean that, and i think you also know this.
maybe its your good heart that has clouded your judgement, on what is becoming fairly obvious, with the maccanns.
some times people are best to put their compasion to one side to get to the truth.

I agree with you. I would keep the campaign high profile no matter what questions were asked and I certainly wouldn't have the bad manners to walk out of an interview because I didn't like the question. I would expect those kinds of questions and deal with them accordingly without blowing my cool. Afterall the question that made him walk out was "How did you feel when blood was found in the apartment?" surely his personal feelings aren't subject to the police enquiry. I am fluent in Spanish and live in Spain so I saw the interview and there were moments when he did look frightened.

Gerry has confused me a bit. For the past 4 months they have kept Madeleine's profile high to try and help find her - this was a good approach I thought and I'm talking about the posters and media coverage of HER not the trips to the US, Pope etc.
It would be a hell of a coincidence that this sudden withdrawal was nothing to do with the criticism of them. What Gerry doesn't seem to realize is that the criticism that is being directed at them is regarding their decisions of the night Madeleine disappeared, their lies and contradictions following and their decision to keep themselves in the media overshadowing their daughter - not the decision to keep their daughter's profile high.
I am not surprised that he doesn't see this as he doesn't understand that they did anything wrong that night so will probably not be able to separate the criticism of their actions that night and after from all the speculation.
By making it low key, Gerry obviously thinks that as well as taking the spotlight off Madeleine, it will also take the spotlight of him, you could call it trying to cover his own @rse. But unfortunately it's too late for that now.
As more details come out it puts them in a worse and worse light which would have happened a lot earlier if the media hadn't have had the pact of silence in unbiased reporting.
Now it's all come out they can't take the heat of criticism so are running away from it instead of holding their heads high and stating that the ONLY important thing is finding Madeleine. Their reputations should mean nothing to them - if they are totally innocent in any part of their daughter's disappearance (apart from the contribution by leaving her). As I'm sure you well know, when you have children you would do anything in the world for them. If I needed to get to my child and the whole population was beating me with sticks to stop me getting to her I would keep on going ignoring everything anyone else said and did as my only focus would be my child and nothing else.

I think the media has done such a good job so far to keep Madeleine's profile high.
It's a shame that the statement of 'scaling down' has been released. Madeleine is still missing, so it shouldn't be scaled down until she's found.
Seems too much of a coincidence that the week the press appear to be turning, the McCanns make the decision to take a step back. Their daughter is still missing - they should not step back.

This whole saga is strange since day one. And I don't see it getting any better in fact it is getting worse. I feel Madeleine would have been found if a low profile was kept at the start.

He's become very defensive when anyone dares judge what they did or criticizes him.
Funny, now he wants to go home and back to normality now he's getting the attention he's so desperately been seeking.. strange eh? If that was me, and I truly believed my daughter was alive and I felt I had done nothing to put her & her siblings in harms way, I wouldn't give a toss what anyone said, i'd stay till she was found. I'd certainly be doing a hell of a lot more than them, thats for sure.

Maybe it's all beginning to hit home. Months of positive thinking, faith etc but still no Madeleine. The grief / depression/ guilt is all beginning to descend.

He sought advice at the outset from, one would think, the best place to ask.He followed their advice and in doing so left himself at the mercy of the media.
The media as we all know cares not a jot for anyone and is only interested in viewing figures and sales figures.
Those sympathetic towards the McCann's have since turned their interest back to daily life and await the outcome as and when the authorities arrive at their conclusion.
This has left the field open for the anti McCanns who being the ones showing the most(ghoulish might I add) interest are now being pandered to by the media, hence the venomous slant.
The McCanns, not being stupid people have probably realised this could be detrimental to their quest to find Madeleine.
Would you therefore placed in his position not do the same or would you allow the media's nasty campaign hinder the search for your child?
Is a grown up response too much to ask?

I think to keep Madeleine's profile high means that his and Kate's profiles remain high also, and, he doesn't like it. He's unhappy with his odd behaviour coming under public scrutiny.

Hi, its me again Just!
I think that maybe their hope has been drained from them and they are realizing that it is unlikely she will come home.
They may be feeling enough is enough. The Portuguese press has speculated a lot, and that does not help anyone.
Nobody really knows who has been advising them regarding the media.
At the end of the day, a child is still missing.
I also would never have left my son alone, not for one minute!

I believe your right, it's because the media campaign is back firing. Also I think a lot of people have changed their opinions of the couple since the whole thing started, he knows people are irritated by them and they are disliked by a lot of people who believe they are involved in someway. They are in the papers everyday, unlike Madeleine and I think that has certainly not done them any favours.
EDIT:Sam C - that's not an answer is it? NOOOO then crawl back into your hole and stop spamming the board. If you have an answer to the question then answer it, don't just use other peoples questions to rant and rave.
