I would like to make an umbrella as a part of my final year project but I can't find anything on the internet. Making of the frame is not necessary but I would like instructions on how to print on nylon, how to attach the fabric to the frame, etc. Thank you to anyone who can help.

The cover or canopy of the umbrella is hand sewn in individual panels to the ribs. Because each panel has to be shaped to the curve of the canopy, the cover cannot be cut in one piece. Panels are sewn at the outer edges of the ribs, and there are also connections between the ribs and the panels about one-third of the way down from the outer edge of the canopy.. The fabric used in a good-quality umbrella canopy is usually a nylon taffeta, with an acrylic coating on the underside and a scotch-guard type finish on the top. . Fabric patterns and designs can be added using a rotary or silk screening process
The end tips of the umbrella, where the ribs reach past the canopy, can be left bare or covered with small plastic or wood end caps that are either pushed or screwed on, or glued, and then sewn to the ends of the ribs through small holes in the end caps.
All very complicated if you ask me,but good look!

The idea of a final year project is that you figure out how it's done, or you invent a way to do it.

You can study any umbrella to see how it's attached. The nylon is attached to the frame with loops or thread and sometimes little pockets for the ends of the frame to fit into.

You can screen print on nylon if you use the right inks. Your supplier can make sure you have the right ink. I use dharmatrading.com for that sort of thing.

i would do silk screening that's the best way to paint your fabric. your should take a look at an old umbrella its just 6 strips sewed together even if you have an old umbrella take it apart and cut out our pieces from that. let me know if you have any more questions
