First off, you're husband's a jerk for saying that. Is work more important than the BIRTH of his CHILD and supporting his WIFE? Damn.
Anyway, you'll probably get more accurate answers for this in the Pregnancy and Parenting section.

At the time of delivery with my second child, my husband (now my ex) AND my mother were allowed in the delivery room. The room was one of those birthing rooms, so it was very big and allowed for more than one support person. If your hospital has a birthing room, call them and ask who can go with you. It is not mandatory that is always the husband with you in the delivery room. These days there are so many different types of relationships that the old stigma of hubby being there is outdated. I would guess you could bring anyone either family or friend. But word of advice...hubby SHOULD be with you...work or not. It is his child and I'm sure his job would understand him taking time for the birth of a child. If not, you might want to rethink both hubby and his job. Good luck and congrats on the baby!

It was possible for your husband to lay down and make a baby with you then it is possible for him to be in the delivery room with you !!!I think it's ashame that your husband used that excuse that he had to work,I don't know any boss or job that won't let there husband be excused from work-to see their baby being born that's a bunch of bull.I don't know how long you have been married or been dating him but sounds like trouble to me. nip it in the bud now, make him go he helped making the baby he should wanna be there. Also depending on were you are from most if not all hospitals lets any one you wish in the delivery room......good luck

My ex husband was a complete as*hole, of the worse sort. Beyond any of your imaginations. And still, HE took off work to watch our daughter be born. You know, the law is on his side, and even if his job is being d*cks about it. He can legally take off work and still have a job the next day, so this just tells me it is HIS choice to not be there. You have bigger issues to worry about than who, other than your baby's daddy, can accompany you. I feel so sorry for you and your child, having a life filled with special moments that daddy always misses. That poor child.

now it is possible for almost anyone you choose to accompany you in delivery...hospitals have become pretty lenient in allowing family or friends to be present at the birth of a child. just make sure you choose someone who is of age and very close to you as they see you in a whole different way. congratulations

Why do you need anyone there but the doctor and nurses? I had 4 kids and it works out much better when just they are there.. I don't believe in the family, including the father, hanging around while I give birth I think that is just totally gross!

Are you kidding me??? What a winner! You can have your mother with you. You better keep her by your side you are going to need her when he keeps breaking your heart. A man who won't be by your side at such a important occassion then he won't be there for others... Good luck.
