With my first pregnancy I tried vitamin B12.. didn't help, tried cinnimon... didn't help, tried ginger... didn't help. The doctor eventually gave me a prescription that kind of helped (only after I was admitted to the hospital for severe dehydration). I want to know if there is any thing else that's worked for others out there that I can try. I'm only a few weeks pregnant and I want to stop this before it gets as bad as it did the first time around. I haven't started the prenatal vitamins yet but I plan on getting some with low iron since I know that can sometimes make it worse. Thanks!

Thanks for all the answers so far! These are wonderful. I'm already sipping on water all day and *trying* to make sure I eat at least every couple of hours. Those things seem to be taking the actual vomitting off me but I still feel sick to my stomach. I think I'll try the protein thing though (and the peanut butter in the bathroom... although I HATE peanut butter but if it will make me feel better I am all for it!). Thanks again! And please keep them coming! I don't want to end up like I did last time sick as a dog and laying in a hospital bed with an IV!

Sipping ice cold lemonade all day (SIPS!!!) helped me get through one pregnancy.

For another, the only thing I could keep down was spicy food and fruit, and I sipped ice water all day. That was my roughest pregnancy -- I had so many food aversions, I couldn't go to the grocery store because even the photo on a can of something or other would make me sick.

Prenatal vitamins made me sick, so my doc let me take two Flinstones chewables...which was fine until I developed an aversion to the red ones...then the purple ones...and finally the orange ones. I still can't open a jar of vitamins without feeling a wave of nausea, and my youngest child is 3-and-a-half years old.

Another thing you can try is brewer's yeast, which you can get at a health food store. Women have been using that for years -- my mom was even prescribed warm beer to cure morning sickness back in the 1960s.

Also try combining things. The ginger might not work alone, but it might work with the vitamin B12. Are you taking the vitamin orally? Because there is also a cream that you can rub on your wrists and in your armpits, so it doesn't go into your stomach (sounds weird, but it actually works).

with both my pregnancies I suffered a condition called 'Hyperemisis' which is severe vomitting to the point of dehydration & hospitalisation.

The ONLY thing I could keep down was my father in laws home made chow mein!!!

NOw I realise I cant send this to you !!! but the ,main ingredients were pork pieces , silverbeet, onion, carrots, sweet potato and salt & pepper.

I dont know why this worked but I think it was my starved body's way of getting goodness.

Try homemade soup (if you are as sick as I was you will have to get someone to make it for you !!) and not too thick

I remember my Dad in laws soup was quite thin and watery.

Even some broth or consomme may help you.

I also used to drink orange and mango juice (actually I craved it) but it was also helpful.

with soup and juices you will be able to get much needed nutrients and vitamins into your body. Also plain bread dipped in soup can be filling but gentle.

I know this is a very old fashioned idea but before the invention of b12 tablets and iron pills women had to use natural and available solutions to morning sickness and to be honest at least you also have the comfort of knowing how good these things are for the baby and for you.

Good luck with the baby and pregnancy,,,,

Someone mentioned lots of small meals. That's true but make sure they are high in protein. Eat a little bit every couple of hours. Eggs, peanut butter and apples, cottage cheese and peaches, cheese and crackers and some fruit. Morning sickness is basically because you protein levels are low so if you get keep your levels high you should have little to no morning sickness. But don't wait till you start to feel sick before you eat, eat before you start to feel sick. Keep hard boiled eggs in the fridge so that every hour you can eat an egg. Make sure during the day though you eat a piece of fuit with whatever you choose for protein. You want to make sure you get a good balance of sugar and protein. Also keep peanut butter and a spoon in the bathroom so at night when you get up to pee you can eat a spoonful of peanut butter. This will ensure that your levels stay up at night that way in the morning they are not at rock bottom. Thats why you mainly feel worse in the morning. Because you go all night without eating. So if you eat the peanut butter it keeps some sort of protein in your system.

After 12 weeks of sucking lemons and eating crackers, etc., I thought there was no hope in sight. Then I was given a pointer from a brazilian pregnant lady. She told me I could just have the alkaline or acidity of my body off. She told me to go a 4 days-1 week cutting as much acid from my diet as possible. This meant drinking water and reading labels very closely - I ate alot of eggs, cheese, and bread. Everything contains some type of acid in the ingredients now-a-days. After that short amount of time, she suggested that if I was still sick, to put more acid in - reason lemons work well for some women. Luckily the first one worked. It was amazing! I called her to ask if I had to stay on that diet and she said no, but I may need to "restart" my system again if it gets flooded. Well 7 weeks later, I'm eating what I want and when I feel off, I cut back again.

a cup of peppermint tea and dry crackers before you even sit up in the morning and when every you feel the need during the day - I did this after spending my first 2 pregnancys back in and out of hospital for 6 months. It eased it and I used the ginger in conjuction and it all disappeared - I then kept this method for my last 3 pregnancies. Different people work different ways my recommendation - try everything if your doctor is ok with it. - Good luck

The main cause of morning sickness is a combination of issues related to the chemical changes your body is going through. Mix a pinch of nutmeg powder with a table spoon of gooseberry juice, and take it thrice a day. Sip little by little ginger juice mixed with honey before you get out of bed. Eating lots of small meals. I was pretty sick with my first and I just made sure I always had something in my tummy not a lot just something small. I have also heard to increase protein. Making sure you are getting lots of water (sip it all day) is also said to help, I believe it.
