I thought they figured it out when they were stuck in the Superdome and the Convention center for days with no signs of rescue.

Two years later and they are still complaining about what the government ISN'T doing. When will they get the memo that they will have to get jobs and do for themselves?

Isn't that the lesson that should have been learned immediately after that unfortunate tragedy?

Poor black democrats, don't they know disaster money only goes to rich white republican areas after a hurricane? See Florida for details.

But you're right about one thing it proves: People who don't believe government can work SHOULD NOT be elected to run it.

Are you aware that they had at least 4 days notice before Katrina struck yet, they still stuck around?

Are you aware that there have been blizzards and fires and floods across America which are causing displacement and destruction and death but, Al Sharpton, Jessie Jackson the MSM and the hate Bush crowd in general are not even mentioning it because those cannot be polarized and turned into a race issue?

Now when you say government are you referring to the local city and state government (made of Democrats mind you) who IS responsible for their own CITY and STATE or are you referring to the federal government?

The government could help way more than they are, considering they're just sending people to die and kill in Iraq. Those people could go to help out in new orleans.
However the people that are able to should do anything they can to help themselves out. I feel most everyone there has the idea the government is going to do everything for them. Or feels that it should.
That is no mentality to have when things need to get done/cleaned up. There are people from all over and from all professions that have come to new orleans to help clean up and are getting spat on by most of the same people complaining nothing is being done to help them recover. Not all the blame has to go on the government, I'm not saying the people of new orleans are to blame for katrina but that they should help themselves out as much as the government is trying to. And no way in hell am i endorsing our government either.

114 billion dollars has been authorized and allocated for use in the Katrina area. The Louisiana Gov and the Mayor of New Orleans have not made requests for it. Last nights news stated that 2000 requests for Katrina funds have been made my Mississippi and 20 (twenty) have been made by Louisiana.

Money's there only the elected officials are not requesting it.

By the way all fiscal bills originate in the US House of Representatives. That House was controlled by Republicans when the law was passed...114 billion dollars and Nagin and Blanco and the fine residents of New Orleans are still bitching.

I'm sick and tired of New Orleans

I know people will think I am hatful, bitter, angery what ever, but I have wondered now for two years, why the whole world thinks that our goverment should jump in and bail these people out with tax money. THis is my point. If my house burns, or my house floods and i don't have insurance, NO one will give a flip. If my whole town go down no one will care, so why does everyone think we should just jump in and rebuild what ever they want. I don't mean to be mean, I just do not understand.

Thanks to liberal "social programs" the USA is turning into a society of people who honestly think they are "ENTITLED" to the government GIVING them everything they need and want.

The state and fed. governments have spent decades handing out "entitlements" left and right but making it hard to get off of them because if Ms. Smith has two kids and wants to take an entry level job, she loses all "benefits" and then has to pay child care out of her salary which makes her income LESS than the "entitlements" she was getting before the job.

Major reform is needed to all of the programs that would encourage people to actually get jobs rather than stay on the various welfare programs.

I know of several folks who would LOVE to go to work but can't afford to because of the child care expenses that wouldn't be covered. (and no they are not popping out babbies just to stay on welfare)

You are correct. Governments at all levels should concentrate on their own responsibilities: roads, bridges, infrastructure.
Individual home and business owners should move out and not rebuild anything below sea level. It is taking a big risk.
