is there any easy way to get brake cylinder boots off?

please help, we are having a hell of a time with a hammer and Pb Blaster

Drum brake wheel cylinder boots side off with no problem. Why not replace the whole wheel cylinder and be done with it? They are bolted on the back side of the backing plate.
