I dont get any signal when I switch my monitor to digital input. The windows properites says I can have dual monitors, do I need to switch to the second monitor for the DVI-D output? Really driving me nutz someone help me. My card is a Raedon X300 and the monitor is samsung 960BW. Both have DVI-D, and the DVI cable is dual link. Should it be single link? I dont know the difference.

Hiya Phil,

Yes you do have to change one setting the first time and never again. Windows probably already sees the monitor but it is waiting for you to set it as attached. Some of us have several monitors and the option is there so we can turn 1 or 2 off depending on need.

To make it "attached" do this:

1) Right click on the desktop and select PROPERTIES from the drop down menu. This will open the DISPLAY PROPERTIES window.

2) Click on the SETTINGS tab located along the top of the window, right hand side.

3) You should see a small windows with 2 or 3 monitor icons that are labeled with numbers in the screen. Number 1 is the monitor that has been working, number 2 is the one you have attached and it should be grayed out. Right click on number 2 and click on ATTACHED from the drop down menu.

4) Click the APPLY button on the bottom and the monitor should come to life if there are no other problems with your computer or Windows. When it does, drag the icon to the location where it is on your desk in relation to monitor number one.

If this does not make it work there may be a connection problem somewhere in loop.

GOOD LUCK!!

You should not need to change any settings.

You need to reboot with the monitor connected via the DVI-D cable and the VGA disconnected.

You may need to press the input select button on the monitor so that it displays the digital input.

You only need a dual link cable when you go over 1600 by 1200, or 1920 by 1200. If you are trying to run at a higher resolution try dropping the resolution in case the card and monitor are not implementing dual link in the same way.
