Pro's - Do you keep an open mind and believe there is a possability that the McCanns may have had something to do with their daughters disappearence? Or do you think that there is know way they could have done anything wrong?

Anti's:Do you think they may have nothing to do with her disappearence or do you feel certain that they have done something? (other than being neglectful or selfish)

One of the reason's I ask this is because although the a lot of the Pro's state their answer's clearly and put forward good and reasonable answers, there are others, like Sam (spam) J who are convinced without a doubt that the parents have no involvement at all. I just wonder why someone would believe in other people so much when they have never met the person. If they did have something to do with it surely that person will feel very foolish for having spent every day on here slating peoples opinions.

LOL@Sam C - wonder who this person could be *LMFAO* - it is an innocent question and in no way nasty, in fact I stuck up for Gerry in a question earlier..think I had too much to drink last night lol.

Plato - do you have a link to any of the questions where I have responded rudely to you? I have been through your questions and answers and could only find this one, which was my other ID anyway....

You are the one who has been singling people out on this site from the start. Like Dave S, you constantly posted questions slating him, he has never been rude to anyone on here. Unless you can provide a link that proves what you are saying about me then I wouldn't bother love, it just shows you to be a liar.

They had a lot to do with it, they should not have left her and her siblings alone like that. She was only three at the time! They have nothing do with her disappearance directly but, although you say "other than being negleftful or selfish" however this makes them highly responsible indirectly. In the UK, I believe it is illegal to leave children alone if they are under eight years old. Even if the poor girl hadnt disappeared she could have had a nightmare, wanted to go to the toilet, there could have been a fire... the list is endless. I only have limited sympathy for the McCann's, but I do hope Maddy is alive and being looked after properly. I fear that is not the case, though.

Yep, thought it was a loaded question.

Psychologically disturbed people often have very strong opinions. They seldom have an open mind. BUT...... having said that, they are not necessarily trustworthy opinions. More often than not they border on the OCD (obsessive compulsive disorder). I feel the McCanns have almost reached this OCD stage. The search for the truth has become obsessive. Instead they should go home and try and look after the twins as loving prents. The twins surely need their parents attention. THEY also must feel the loss of a lovely sister. Let's hope the case comes to an early conclusion with the DNA result from the lab in the UK.

I'm pro Maddeleine end of story. I leave everything else to the police. I honestly don't believe we will find out what happened. I know many of you want closure as will the police, the parents and everyone else, but I'm not expecting it. It has been too long now. I live not far from Portugal. If someone tried to hide a body here it could remain hidden for a very long time. If you buried a body here in May before the heat got up, you'd never find it now because the countryside is baked solid. The temperature yesterday was over 100f. If there are no clues at the scene, and I appreciate there has been a lot of speculation. The fact that many don't like Gerry has no bearing on anything. The police will have investigated this over and over again.
In 2001 a young girl disappeared from Walton on Thames. Her body was found over a year later but as yet there is no closure to that case as far as I know. DNA will be kept on file and the police may get lucky, but I'm not hopeful.

Someone on here has said this and I quote "No parent can keep an eye on their children 24 hours a day. It only takes a few seconds for a child to be snatched". I would totally agree with this statement but this wasn't the case was it. I repeat because clearly, this guy is not aware of the facts. Gerry and Kate WILFULLY ABANDONED their children for more than a few seconds. They went out to dinner with all their friends and they left three BABIES alone ALL NIGHT. They refused the free babysitting service and whilst they told the police they checked on their children every half an hour - THEY LIED. Doesn't anyone smell the huge great big rat under their nose! Jesus, how can anyone defend their behaviour - this wasn't turning your back on your kids for a second, this wasn't a mistake - this is CHILD NEGLECT - get the picture?

I try to keep an open mind. When I first came onto Y!A I was shocked at some of the things people were saying about the McCanns, and my answers at that time reflected that, as I felt all they had done was make a terrible mistake by leaving their kids alone, and I really thought that Maddy would be found, alive, at least, if not well. Now, however, having read more about the case, and about the McCanns themselves, I feel that a lot of things don't add up, and I really can't believe the way they are behaving. Also, it looks now as if Maddy is almost certainly dead, but at whose hands, I am not sure. If she is dead, then only if her body is found, will there be any chance of finding out EXACTLY what happened to her.

I cannot take to the McCanns and this feeling goes right back to the start of this case. Because of my feeling, although I have no idea what happened to the poor child or who was responsible for her disappearance I would not rule anything in or out.

I hope that the McCanns have had nothing to do with the fact that she is missing apart from the very clear case of negligence. I do not want to see them go to prison because I think the twins have had enough to cope with . However, I do hope that, for the sake of the twins, that the McCanns are place under some sort of supervision.

The thing I don't like about this case is that the story keeps changing - initially the claim was it was a final night thing - romantic meal together - then it appears it was with a group of friends all as guilty as each other for leaving their children unattended - was there not one adult in that group who did not voice the wrongness in leaving the children alone! For this fact all are to blame - all shoulder that responsibility.

As for the comments I have read here about going off site "This gave them the space for a bit of time together whilst giving the children a good night's sleep so they could enjoy their holiday without being overtired. " quoting reardwen - this is absolute tosh!

I took my children on our family holiday - ages 1 and 2yrs - we went as a family - if we ate out it was as a family - if we had time alone together it was on the decking of our cabin - playing cards, chatting and having us time - we had a fantastic refreshing family holiday - at no time did we feel the need to leave our children - lack of sleep comes as part of the job - if you become a parent then you should expect some impact on life as you know it!

As for are they involved in the disappearance - currently none of us know that - I await the results and it may be one of those things that goes down in history as one of the big misteries of 2007! I believe the truth will out, the reason people are disbelieving the McCanns is purely because their stories keep changing - and they don't appear to be reacting like most of us feel we would at a time like that...

Lets wait and see everyone - you would call me an "anti" and I seriously believe I will be saying "I told you so", but I am synical..

Here's to a good result - once she is found then I think neglect needs to be addressed!

at this very minute i am trying to keep an open mind about it all ...just wish the darn dna results would come back soon...lol.

EDIT reardwen : not necessarily would they both have to be 'in it' as you put it to provide alibi for each other. there has never been any solid proof that madeleine was abducted so that blows your entire statement. whether her disappearance was rear or not is insane cause whether kids are abducted .
or vanish without a trace they are all still missing and chances of it happening are still credible.
Maybe all the media frenzy is/was to shift the attention from the parents to the 'campaign' and throw everyone off.
Despite the resort being advertise as being safe and kid friendly the kids were/are the sole responsibility of the parents and not the resort....they should have ensured their kids were safe on all counts.
If the parents wanted 'an adult holiday' then they should have left the kids at home with the grandparents and not alone in an unsecured apartment on their own.

I keep an open mind.

All I have heard so far is speculation. Did they leave the children alone? How alone were they, how far away were they?
Do we not put our children in bed upstairs in their bedrooms..... alone. Are we wrong to do this? Do we not check on our children when they are asleep. Who checks on them in the middle of the night when we are asleep? Do we not have visitors in the home when our children are asleep? Are we not allowed to have visitors in our home if our children are in bed asleep? From what I have heard. these people were checking on the children constantly and they were not that far away from the apartment. I am not saying it is what I would have done. BUT!! None of us were there, so who are we to criticise.

None of this alters the fact that the little girl is missing and they desperately want to find her.

These sayings strike a bell among you................

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone"
There have been quite a few stones cast on this site. I don't believe for one second that they are sinless people casting them. Just by the very tone of the accusations they make is sin enough in my book.

I have not seen anything to indicate to me that they have had anything to do with the childs abduction. Far from it. I think they believe they have done everything in their power to find her. I have seen nothing to indicate that they are not the loving parents they profess to be. I think they have tried very hard to keep their dignity with all the accusations that have gone on around them. I think they may well have been ill advised in some of the interviews they have given. I believe that a person is innocent until proved otherwise. There has been nothing I have seen or heard to make me think otherwise.
