Hi, I always hear about UCLA. Can someone please tell me what the connection is with the University of California. Is it simply that UCLA is one of the University of California's campuses? I'm in Australia and have no idea, but Uni of Cal is available for student exchange from my uni. Is it a good uni? Thanks.

UCLA is University of California at Los Angeles. It is part of the UC system. There are other UC schools they are unique and individual schools. Like UC Davis, UC Berkeley, ETC.

Hopefully that sheds some light on the subject for you down under. :)

UCLA is part of the University of California system. But it is not UC.

If someone says "The University of California" -- they usually mean the one in Berkeley. The others are usually referred to by location -- like UCLA, UC-Davis, US-San Diego, UC-Riverside, US-Merced, UC-Santa Barbara, UC Irvine, etc.

California has at least three university systems. The University of California system is a collection of highly regarded research institutions. Berkeley is the highest ranked -- but UCLA and UCSD are not far behind. They are among the best public universities in the US.

They also have the California State University system (CSU). This is a collection of universities that are much less selective. FInally, there is a collection of Community Colleges -- two year schools that prepare students to transfer to a four year institution.

They are different schools. There are about a dozen different campuses for the University of California in cities like Los Angles and Fresno and there are about a dozen University of California campuses in places like University of California at Los Angles (UCLA). They are public colloges.

Other states also have several colleges like in Illinois where there is Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western universities located in that particular part of the state.

California has several locations for their state university system. UCLA is the University of California, Los Angeles. So, yes, it is the University of California but specific to that location.

There are others such as UC Davis, UC Santa Barbara...you see the pattern? :) They are all good schools. Good luck!
