plus I'm sick of paying all that money for smokes. I'm using Chantix with their online support plan.....but I've tried to quit before. What makes this time THE LAST AND FINAL TIME I try to quit? I quit drinking a year 1/2 ago, but it seems that is far simpler. Cigarettes are like your constant companion. (Smokers know...."Keys, glasses, cigarettes"). I'm afraid of how I'll feel today..........thanks for any support!

Gooood Godess! I smoked non filtered Lucky Strikes for over 40 years. The method I used to finally quit 5 years ago is: A prescription for Nicotrol Inhaler. It's like a cigarette holder that you insert nicotine cartridges into up to 16 times daily. I only used 2 cartridges daily for less than a week, but used the holder as a pacifier for 3 weeks. When those "triggers" hit you just inhale outside air through the 'pacifier'. I was spending about $165 monthly to smoke. So as a reward I bought a new motorcycle that ran $165 a month. I kept my lighter and stale cigarettes in plain view in the center of my car's dash for nearly 2 years so as not to feel deprived and to assure that I am voluntarily quitting. Nobody took anything away from me. I'm smoke free and have never cheated once. Good luck!

Congratulations on quitting. People who have never smoked have no idea how hard it is to quit(especially for women). I do not know anyone who has used Chantix, but I've heard a lot of good things about it... I truly hope it works for you!
Another thing you can try is to rub orange oil on your skin. If you can find the essential oil you can use that, or just use the skin of a freshly peeled orange. Not only will it make you smell good, but the chemicals in it helped to draw the toxins out of your body.
When you get that craving to smoke remind yourself how much better you feel and how much better you'll look and smell when you no longer smoke.
And just remember if you do slip up and have a cigarette (we've all been there when trying to quit) don't let that discourage you. Just like when quitting anything else or dieting and you have that bowl of ice cream, tell yourself no big deal, I messed up, but that's it from now on.

Just think of all the benefits.

Save money, breath easier, regain your senses, won't smell like smoke, stop staining your teeth, not forced to go in terrible weather just to have a smoke, don't have to contribute to second hand, plane trips won't be seen as a burden, not increased your chances of cancer, etc.

The first three days will be the hardest and after the three days if you have a craving it will be all mental. Hopefully a few deep breathes and an activity to keep your mind busy should shake it.

Good Luck!

Good for you! I quit 1 1/2 years ago for the same reason (preparing for surgery) and I've been thanking my doctor for telling me to do it ever since. I feel so free without that addiction! Don't give up. YOU CAN DO IT! =)

My daughter quit using the same method. You seem to have two things going for you this time that were not there before, the medication and desire to give the habit up. Don't be discouraged if you get sick in a bit, it shouldn't last for long. You have to be brave and determined. GOOD LUCK and stay with it. When I quit I went cold turkey and kept cigs and a lighter full of fluid with me and was succesful. You can do it!!!

I'm so glad your quitting! My man was a Vietnam Vet and had lung disease due to Agent Orange. He was on oxygen and you would not believe the people in restaurants that would light a cigarette. So, we had to leave because he didn't want me to make scene. Very sad watching him drag a big oxygen tank out of the cafe. Probably the people that lit up were draft dodgers!!

FABULOUS!!! You will never be sorry.

Remove everything and anything that has to do with smoking from your house. Once you get the smoke smell out of your clothing, hair, house and car. You will wonder how you every stood it.

I chewed gum and breathed through my mouth to get through the moments when I was "craving".. You can do it just be strong. Best wishes.
