I have a Compaq Presario 555NR notebook. I ran the scan from crucial.com and it said I currently have 512 MB of DDR PC2-5300. It said to install DDR2 PC2-4200, that it was compatible. Can I mix these 2 types?

Yes you can mix these 2 types but the 5300 will drop down to the 4200 so its like having 2 4200 DDR2 RAMs

Yes you can mix them.

DDR and PC2 identify the type of RAM

5300 and 4200 identify the speed.

If you mix these types of RAM in your PC all that happens is that both RAM sticks will operate at the slower speed.

Hope this helps.

If it's one other card, assess that it's thoroughly seated. I desire you eliminated the energy and battery even as becoming it as in any other case there can nonetheless be voltage gift on the connector pins, this will motive harm. If this can be a alternative card, assess that it truthfully is greater than 256M. If so pass into bios and assess for any facility to difference ram settings, not going however potentially it demands to be informed the scale.
