I am an alto/mezzo. we are supposed to sing two Sondheim songs. One of them preferably from the show. The one from the show I'll be singing part of "Stay With Me." However I cannot find a song outside the show. I have the book of songs from "Company". Does anyone have any suggestions?!?! THANKS!!!

OK, you don't give your age, but the characters from Company in your vocal range are Amy, Joanne, Kathy, Marta & Sarah. The best song out of whhat they sing is Joanne's The adies Who Lunch. There's also Little Things You Do Together (also Joanne), You Could Drive A Person Crazy (April, Kathy & Marta), and Another Hundread People (Marta).

If you can stray from Company, consider:
Sunday in the Park With George - Sunday In The Park With George
Children And Art - Sunday In The Park With George
Green Finch and Linnet Bird - Sweeney Todd
By The Sea - Sweeney Todd
Children Will Listen - Into The Woods
I Know Things Now - Into The Woods
Anyone Can Whistle - Anyone Can Whistle
Broadway Baby - Follies
I'm Still Here - Follies
Could I Leave You - Follies

Seeing that you're singing "Stay With Me", I'm going to assume that you're going for the Witch. (If not, I'd really recommend that you not sing that song. By singing a song from the show, you're showing them what character you want.) I'm looking for some other Sondheim suggestions now, although looking at Bernadette Peters stuff would probably help, she did a lot with Sondheim. Anyway, some characters I recommend looking into would be:

Rose (Gypsy)
Dot/Marie (Sunday in the Park With George)
Mrs. Lovett (Sweeney Todd)

Sorry I couldn't be of more help!

Broadway Baby -- from Follies. This is a lot of fun

Send in the Clowns, from A Little Night Music -- something slower, more serious

I am Easily Assimilated, from Candide -- a LOT of fun

Rose's Turn, or Let Me Entertain You -- from Gypsy

The Ladies Who Lunch, or Putting it Together, from Putting it Together (the latter is a good, fast "patter" song--very challenging)

Title Song from Sunday in the Park with George (warning -- very long and very challenging. I'd give at least two good weeks of prep time)
