Virginia is beautiful! My son just moved there and it's awesome. There's beaches (in the summer it is REAL hot) and Busch Gardens (a combo zoo/amusement park) and all KINDS of cool historical places to visit. Virginia Beach has lots of military people but it is really nice plus it is close to lots of the cool stuff. Plus, it is only 4 hours or so away form Washington DC which is a cool place to visit. I
If you want low key, Michigan has TONS of lakes including the Great Lakes and if you like skiing there are places to do that in the winter. Up North is awesome. Woodsy and clean. There are lots of casinos up north if you are into gambling. The Mackinac Bridge joins the upper and lower peninsula and it is one of the neatest bridges in the world. There is Mackinac Island, too, which is a tourist place but really neat. No cars are allowed there and there are horse drawn carriages or bicycles to get around. It has THE best fudge and The Grand Hotel which is awesomely expensive but really old fashioned looking and beautiful. Those would be MY two choices.
If you want just big city vacationing, Chicago Illinois has GREAT shopping and restaurants and cultural stuff like museums and an aquarium. It is great there. Safe and clean.
Once you narrow it down, I'd go online and get info sent to you or print it.

Seaside,OR is a rather nice place, I've been here for almost twenty yrs. now since moving from Portland,OR. The beach is great, the sand is warm and there are only like 4 thousand people in this town. Only problem is when Hood to Coast comes here and then there is 50 thousand people here and you can't walk down the street.

Well, I may be a little biased because I live here, but I think California is the best place to vacation in the States. We have everything you want - cities, beaches, parks, forests, deserts, mountains, lakes...
San Francisco
Santa Cruz
Yosemite
Redwood Forests
Santa Monica
Santa Barbara
Napa Wine Country
Its a beautiful state and I don't think you would be disappointed.

It really depends on what kind of activities you are looking for. If you want the beach-Florida, big city-New York, Chicago, Las Vegas, mountains-Colorado, Arizona, desert-Texas, Arizona, New Mexico. We have so much to offer here in the U.S. your possibilities are endless. So what I would suggest to you is decide what your main interest is and of course your time frame, then come back on and you'll get a nice array of suggestions.

Go to a beach in Florida. It's nice and warm. Or you could visit New York. I live in New York. I love it there. It depends on what type of person you are and what you enjoy doing. I wish you the best!!!!!!!

New York City at Christmas is great. But there is so much to see year 'round.
If you want beach & relaxation with a party atmosphere, try Key West, FL

Visit the southwest. There are many things to see that you won't see in a large city. Besides that, the air is much cleaner with less smog.

Come to Chicago. It's big and for a city of it's size pretty safe. Downtown is really fun with lots of shopping and sight seeing. If you look me up I'll take you to some of the wonderful neighborhoods we have! ;-)
