I'm from the U.K, and the typical Internet speed here is 2MBps with $50 (=American $) charge per month.
Is it the same in the States?

Mine is 10 Mbps down 1Mbps up for the equivalent of £20 per month.

It varies wildly based on connection type and location. dial-up services generally cost $10-$15/month and if anyone tells you they get/offer better than 40kbps MAX, they're lieing to you. DSL/cable services are almost always sold bundled with your phone/cableTV so an accurate average price is hard to say, usually in the $40-$80/month depending on how much you bundle and your contract.

Personally, I'm on DSL, I get about 100-150Kbps download, 50Kbps upload for roughly $60/month.

My internet is 100MBPS for $60.00 a month. It is very fast. My internet service provider is Comcast.
