oh, someone just stated monogamy is not natural? hello, God created Adam and Eve, not Adam, Eve, and a sex buddy! sigh... so, therefore, monogamy is natural =) Anyway, these people think these lifestyles are acceptable because they don't have morals, standards, values, etc...and yes, the wedding vows state...forsaking all others! they obviously did not mean the vow when they married! I think some people accept that their spouse wants to live in these ways so they don't "lose" them. Yes, it does hurt people. It hurts families, it hurts their reputation, it hurts the kids. It's sad. It hurts the family name, too. Some think they have to for fear of their spouse leaving them. Let them leave! fooey... other fish in the sea, you know... it's especially worse when these people have children =(...

Great question...
Obviously, the replies will vary greatly because of biased opinions...especially the replies from females...!
With due respect to those that choose alternative lifestyles, it is obvious their choices in life are guided more by their sexual convictions than those of the so-called "moral majority" whom seem to have created the rules of a monogamistic society and expect all peoples to live by them...
In reality, there are many happily married couples enjoying erotism relationships with others, some singles and some married couples. Their views are different, perhaps, than those of the moral majority, but this does not doom their relationships or marriage to failure by any means...
As fact would have it, legalized prostitution would actually save a lot of married couples from divorce simply because of satisfying the sexual urges of one that the other is not providing,..
If the so-called perfect monogamistic wife or husband feels one is cheating when he or she is with another person, then exactly what is it when either one masturbates unseen by each other...?
Is it possible a woman's point of view is that she only needs a man because her vibrator cannot buy meals and drinks...? Is that the truth behind monoganism...? Some religions warrant extra wives and actually does this exist even today in the USA altho hushed as much as possible...
I am monogamistic but will always defend the rights of others to make their own choices as long as those choices do not de-regulate and infringe upon others...

Because such people don't lower themselves or their value and morals to that of our most basic animal instinct.
Those who say that people who do such things lack morals are animals themselves, animals that cannot see past sex into meaningful relationships. Such people who judge others on their sexual behaviors are clearly shallow and obsessed with sex.
Sex is not love. Sex may involve love, but it doesn't have to and I don't think it's natural or right to consider sex as merely making love. People who engage in threesomes and swinging may still be forsaking all others, in that they are not pursuing relationships with these others outside of sex. To accuse couples who have agreements about these sorts of behaviors as cheats is to down grade all relationships to the level of animals (ie. sex) otherwise caring, a much more meaningful human experience, for a friend or family member who is not your spouse would be cheating as caring involves the opposite of forsaking.
And in case your curious, I'm in a long term monogamous relationship.

There was a time that promiscuity was looked down upon the same as being a drug addict or a thief. If you were out f******g around you were trash. There were consequences for that type of behavior. People quite literally would shun you.
Then there came the days of "Free Love". If you saw it and you wanted it.. you had a little bit of it. Since then, although we have as a culture tried to reign it in a bit... once the shame and stigma that went hand in hand with being "loose" was eliminated so too was the last moral hold we had as a community.

Why do some people think that marrying one person and sleeping with them only is an acceptable lifestyle? Better yet, why do some people give a rat's behind about the sexual decisions of strangers they have never met?

Some do it out of desperation, in an act to what they think COULD save the marriage. It doesn't though. Cheating is cheating.... plain and simple.

Some people have the warped idea that if your spouse says its okay, partakes or knows of it that it is not infidelity. Silly people! Cheating is cheating- but because their partner knows and participates they think it's acceptable.

Why is it an unacceptable lifestyle for you? Why do you think they shouldn't engage in such a lifestyle?
In the question lies your answer....
