Grow a pot of hot peppers. They are easy to take care of and they love the sunshine. They are nice to look at too with different colors. But best of all, it's good eating! I gotta have my hot peppers...

Most all of the 'tree fruits' [olives, lemons, limes, oranges, avocados, kiwis] wouldn't really make it indoors to grow large enough to bear fruit...as ornamentals, you could raise them to sizes suitable for planting outdoors. All the herbs would work, but you'd have to grow most mushrooms in the cellar in compost or special bark mulch mixture...most edible varieties aren't big on sunshine. There are bush varieties of tomato, including the little guys ['cherry' tomatoes] that might work indoors...most of the varieties will have a tag or label saying "suitable for container planting", so that would be something to look for.

Ditto Likety: Herbs are very much edible, and you can grow several of them together in a large pot. If you want to experiment, you can try growing tomatoes with your herbs. They especially like to be with basil, oregano, and garlic. Good luck!
