It's called embracing free trade, which is a core value of capitalism. If American truckers compete, there will be no problems.

Jobs? How many american travellers will lose their lives? Do you think those trucks are safe? We can't keep poison food from coming in our ports, how are we going to ensure that Mexican truck had its brakes changed in the past million miles? How will the police know the driver's history if they pull him over? In the US if you get a dui, you cannot be a truck driver. What are the rules in Mexico?

This is the Bush administration backdooring the day labor immigration amnesty policy. It is outrageous, not just for the jobs but for the security of our nation!

Supposedly this is a trial run. We should all write to any elected representative that we can and let them know that we do not want Mexican trucks on our highways.

Unbelievalble.

You can enforce safe trucks a lot easier than you can enforce safe drivers. Are these drivers going to have one set of driving habits for Mexico and another set for the U.S?. Everyone knows that a large percentage of their driver's licenses would be invalid just like their SS cards are now. One of Mexico's biggest exports are forgeries. To prevent this, I would hope that every Mexican driver in this country would have passed a stringent driving test given by US DOT, and can be certified as such by fingerprints or eye patterns in .a database of drivers. Just showing a CDL equivalence card won't cut it (see above)

The driver safety issue concerns me more than the impact on the income of US citizen truckers but that is a problem. Obviously, the BungleBush has instituted this to save businesses money. It's expensive to unload and load up again if that's what is happening. Why not just hook up a different cab to the same trailer and pay rent on the trailer while it is in the custody of the U.S. trucker?

BTW, I don't mind a NAU with Canada and the U.S. but Mexico at this time is too corrupt to participate and most of its people don't have the skills and education needed for commerce.

Each year from my understanding this bill is pushed into the gulley. Each year it has failed and has been removed. Thou we need to make sure this bill does not pass. Or your going to see an influcts of problems from that country. Drivers will be the least of your problems.

If your against slave labor, please speak out againts this bill. You only have to look at the other side of the border to tell what companies sold this country out. Funny how companies are calling for bankruptcy and then moving everything they have to mexico. Dumping there bill on US tax payers.

Hell, you would think the Rep conse would be up in arms over this crap. Having to foot the bill with tax money.

Let me tell you, I was in Tennessee yesterday and I seen more American truckers on the road than I seen cars, or illegals, they were there but there is no way they will lose their jobs, get on the roadway in Knoxville and see for yourself.

personally I'm more worried about what is IN the trucks. will the cargo be inspected thoroughly? This could be used to bring in drugs and bombs.

None of the articles I have read have said one word about inspections of the cargo.

I hope many truckers lose their jobs (on both sides of the border)..

Trucks prematurely wear out the roads (1loaded truck = about 20K of car traffic), thus contributing to the failure of highway infrastructure.

truckers often endanger the lives of citizens by maniacal driving habits, as well as cause numerous wrecks...

We subsidize this industry by using taxdollars to pay for the roads and repairs while they don't pay the true costs of their use.

I say, support RAIL - it is fast, cheaper and more environmentally friendly. trucks could be used to distribute locally what the rail moves for long distances...
