You have to assume the equation is equal to 0.

9x + 7 = 0
9x = -7
x = -7/9

Here, -7/9 is a zero of the polynomial

On its own there would be no single answer to the question. Look at the directions to the problem to see what you are supposed to do.

For instance, it may be that you are supposed to re-write the expression using one of the properties of real numbers. The commutative property would say this expression is equivalent to 7 + 9x, which would be one possible answer.

It is also possible that in the directions they give you a value of "x", which you are supposed to use to evaluate the expression. For instance, if x = -2, the expression would be equal to -11.

The directions are the only way you can tell exactly what you're supposed to do.

"9x + 7 =" is not an equation. It's a pair of terms with an equal sign. To solve this, there needs to be a value on the other side of the equal sign. Please check the instructions. It might assume the value is zero. Or maybe they gave you the value of x and you need to see what 9x + 7 equals.

I don't no. and have never figured it out. But i work algebra problem's almost every day at work with no problem.
