When galaxies collide its called Galaxy Merging, In fact our galaxy the Milky Way is about to collide with our neighbor the Andromeda Galaxy, well in about 3 billion years of course, when Galaxies collide basically the bigger one eats the smaller one and everything gets thrown out of whack for a while but eventually they form one galaxy, it could be disastrous for solar systems because there is so much space junk such as asteroids and meteors that get thrown into the mix

Contrary to goring's answer, galaxies do collide. Their speed of recession is not greater than the speed of light (though it is thought that early expansion in the universe was faster than the speed of light), and local gravitational attraction drags them together.

But a galactic collision is not a collision in the same sense as a car and a wall. There is so much empty space in a galaxy that the chances of actual physical collision of the stars in the galaxies are pretty small. What tends to hapen is that the galaxies actually pass through each other, pulling each other into different shapes and ending up as one big mass of stars.

No, they'll pass through each other because the volume of space between the stars is huge compared with the size of the stars. Gravity will cause them to change shape wildly before they settle down into a single galaxy, or move apart trailing stars and gas towards each other.

They would swoosh right through each other.
Galaxies are mostly empty spaces and the odds of something in one galaxy actually hitting something in the other are really quite low. But both galaxies would become deformed and warped due to the gravitational effects on each individual star. Also a massive burst in starformation could result.

From a non-scientific point of view, the galaxy with the biggest planets and stars would absorb the smaller planets and stars.

According to new Theory, Galaxies are moving at a recession velocity faster then the speed of light.
Therefore if there are receeding from each other,then they could never collide.
If a Galactic collision was ever observed it would constitute a solid Unproof of the Big Bang theory.

Well, I havent seen one do that rescently have you? heh,
its possible, they could bounce/smash off eachother, but its also possible that they collide and stick together, there is a tremedous gravatational force in each galaxy, they might draw closer to each other, lach on and possible orbit each other or combine and do something new.

NO.

They would crash together and there would be huge explosions from the collisions. Debris of all kinds would be strewn across the vicinity for millions and billions of miles.

not many people heard of it
but then again not many care
