I rarely use mine. Electric bills are skyrocketing.

Absolutely!

We never had it when I was growing up. We used fans and did alright. I use it now though. You're right, the electricity is soooo expensive. I don't set it as cool as I'd like, but I use it more to keep the humidity down so that I can sleep better.

it depends which part of the world you live in.... If the temperature is soaring quite high, it is best you open your airconditioner to keep yourself in a comfortable way. Otherwise, you can suffer from stroke and tons of discomforts. Besides, it is quite expensive to get sick nowadays
I guess you check your electric meter maybe there is something wrong somewhere. You can save in other area so you can enjoy the comfort of your airconditioner. It does not mean you open the whole day but open it when you go to sleep and switch off early morning and still enjoy the cool air.

Usually a fan is enough here, even when it's really hot. But I have to admit, when I lived in Florida I couldn't be without an A/C.

I would much rather live without air conditioning. But the person I live with hates summer and can't handle it without air conditioning. I'm sick of the bills too....

Not in NC. In MA, I hardly used one. I agree about the electric bill. It's ridiculous!

Yeap, even when I lived in northern Australia I only used it minimally as a luxury. I didn't actually need it though.
