No system will be in equilibrium. Systems will always be approaching this point and slowly oscillate toward it. Any change in factors will cause this system to move further from equilibrium. Just like being on a see saw (teeter totter), you on one end and someone on the other end. If you are in balance, you will not be completely still. Someone hands you a can of coke, you drink it and hand the can back - you are not balanced any more. The same applies - a land slide ocures the system has changed. You do the rest.
