Here in Scotland a child starts the year they turn 5. My friends kids have started this year, one was 5 in may and the other will be 5 in Oct.

Just read that Madeleine McCann was due to start school and she has just turned 4.

Is there a difference south of the border?

In England children start school during the school year that they turn five so a child who is five from September 07 to Aug 08 would be starting school this year, so Maddie would have been five next summer and would have started school this year.

In England your friend's child who was five in May would have started last September, and the one who is five in October would be starting this September coming.

Hope this helps

Regardless of where a child lives, LEGALLY it starts School the September before they turn 5. So your friend's child you turned 5 in May should have started school in September 2006, and the one who is 5 in October will start in September this year (2007).

My cousin's eldest daughter has her birthday in August, she had just turned 3 two weeks before she started full time school - all her friends turned 4 much earlier in the year, so would have started school anyway - the Headteacher did NOT want her to feel left out, (she should have waited a year, and would have been with children she didn't really know) and as so few children started that year he took her anyway

I started school when I was 4.

By the way the calender year has nothing to do with it in Scotland. It's February to February.

human beings in Wales have a nationwide assembly that's extremely human beings-minded. anybody gets prescription products for extra or less £3 each and every and it will quickly be extremely loose. Over-60's - woman and male - return and forth everywhere on the bus for not something. money is being spent on each and every sort of issues which income extremely everyone, not purely the unemployed.

saucy spider is right ith their answer but it depends on the county council at what age they take them ,and legally your child does not have to start school until it has had its 5th birthday
