We cannot control what others do, however, we have full control of how we reflect ourselves in any situation...this would be my focus choice.

Getting angry about anything reflects fear, so I would nip that in the butt right off. Instead, I would go about my biz as the person I wish others to see...strong, confident, caring, smiling--unaffected by the hearsay garbage--as if I never heard any of it.
It's especially fun to be super sweet to those you know are doing the instigating--all the while letting them see that twinkle in your eyes that shows you are fully aware of their BS--makes them crazy!!!LOL...there is wisdom in "keeping your friends close, but your enemies even closer".

However, if the slander effected my resources that pays my bills, thwarts my growth in both personal & community endeavors, well, then I have a law-suit option, or I could simply move to a place that allows a more positive environment for me to function in...there's lots of places to go, things to do, & new folks to meet. I would probably choose the latter, leaving with my head held high, fully knowing that "what goes around, comes around"...and just continue on my merry way...so many new doors to open!!! Why hang out in a room of dolts when there's a grand block party going on right outside?

Actually, this has already happened to me...several years ago. It did frustrate me initially and I went to the source to see what the heck is going on but the source avoided me for so long and didn't want to be confronted so I eventually turned that frustration inward and from there, I struggled a lot to understand and accept. It really does change how you look at people in general. I am better now but I guess it messed me up because the person (actually, it was more than one) who was doing this to me is family.

Just tell them to their face to cut the cr*p. I would do that and see how they react. If you are direct and honest with them then they might reconsider next time before doing it.
That or ignore them because people don't usually believe that kind of stuff anyway, some people can see right through it. It sounds like some kind of jealousy to me for someone to be doing that.

If it's not true, you can always hire a lawyer and sue for slander and defamation of character.

ostracize \OS-truh-syz\, transitive verb:
1. To banish or expel from a community or group; to cast out from social, political, or private favor..................this has happened to myself, as well...now, there are ways to deal with this..you can hold your head up high, and for those who chose to believe the nasty gossip, well, they werent your friends to begin with, and who would want them to be?...for the ones who spread it, I forgive them also,...and for the ones who stood up for you? I love them..and they will stay close at hand by my side...now, you can't really fight it, expect to ignore it.and i choose to let God deal with them.
