One of my classmates was in a similar situation. Her mother wanted her to get her BSN. The student was happy majoring in french. She ended up finishing the requirements for her language degree and dropped out of nursing spring of her senior year.

There really is no point in completing a major that your parent wants for you. The nursing field is hard enough for people who want it. I can't imagine doing all that work and trying to deal with the stress (of what goes on in a hospital) when you want to be somewhere else.

They may be forever dissapointed. So what, that's life. Their "satisfaction" or "happiness" with your career and educational choices is not the point. This is your life. Suck it up and tell them what you want.

Write a letter outlining the reasons why you want what you want and why the nursing field is not for you. This way you can get everything down on paper and not get lost in your emotions. You can give it to them to read or use it as a reference when you are talking to them. Make sure you have friends around you to support you. Also, is there anyone else in your family that understands you and can help your parents understand your position?

Assuming you are a legal adult, you have every right to register for college yourself - I've never heard of a family forcing a student to register for classes against their will. On the other hand, your family is not obligated to pay for your college education at all, so if you choose to study something other than what they insist on, you may end up paying for your own education. I would have a frank discussion with them. Explain that you will not be doing nursing any longer - you tried it and, while it is a noble profession, it is not for you. Explain your goal and say that you really hope that they will support you in this, but make it clear that you will do this, with or without them. In some families, in which either you are a first generation college student or where your family consists of immigrants, there is a great amount of pressure to fulfill the dreams of others who never were able to pursue their own goals. My mother always wanted me to be the librarian she dreamed of being. It wasn't my own dream, and I couldn't make it happen for her. She did get over it when I became successful on my own terms.

I will start by saying that if you dont dissapoint them now you will eventually disapoint them later because you will not do well in something you dont have passion for .It is passion that will drive you when all else has fail.
Sit your parent down for once and tell them why you should pursure your goals and not theirs. If they truly love you, they should be proud of you in anything you choose to do and play a supportive role rather than dictating for you.I have seen this type of situation ruin many lives because by the time you eventually come to pursure what you really love to do,it will be too late.Talk to God first ,if you believe in one and approach your parent again - Goodluck
