He says that staged pay rises are essential to keeping the UK economy stable.

What he really means is that those who work in ENGLAND will have to have staged pay rises, whilst those in Scotland get their 2.5% NHS pay rise in April and 3.5% prison officers pay rise.

Is Gordon Brown screwing the English, and those who work in England?

AndyH. Have I said anything defamatory against the Scots people, No!
I asked the question on whether the PM was screwing those who work in England, and are they disadvantaged members of the UK when other UK countries get their pay awards in full, but GB wants to stage some pay awards to help the economy (but only stage Englands).
As for Westminster, You will find that they probably trouser most of that for themselves. As somebody else has said, there are more Scots in parliament than ever before, so they might be shafting all of us.

Van der Elst. Tell me about it. I work in the NHS!

All I would like is the same pay award, at the same time as everybody else in Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland.
This isn't racist, just a comment on inequality that this government supports.

AndyH.

re; your last edit. You are bang on the money, and whilst the media portray this, as an Englishman (with a very strong Welsh ancestry) we consider Scots success as Scots success, and English success as the same.

you couldn't give a stuff about us, and likewise us with you.

This post wasn't about differences in people, its about differences in pay awards from the government who are meant to represent the entire population of the UK.

Hello Pedro,

Are we not screwed by ALL politicians regardless of party when they get into power and become cabinet members and other positions of power?

I'm afraid its the same the world over.

I'm a non political person but always vote. I always vote for the party I feel will do the less harm to this country and me rather than the party who I consider will do me and this country the most good.

Lets face it, whoever is in control, the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. The homeless list gets larger, the sick get sicker, etc, etc.

Sorry for being so pessimistic but I have been 'screwed. by all the Governments for the last 60 years.

As an example try to recall all the promises Blair made when he first took office and see how many of those promises were kept.

Has anyone heard if the Politicians have to wait for their pay rise...amounting to thousands...bet they get theirs on the same day...but they keep that quiet don,t they ? As regards Mr Brown well I wish he would toddle back to Scotland. My Daughter is still waiting for her rise which was awarded last year...she is a Paramedic of twenty years. She said she now gets a lower rate than the people who have not got her qualifications, and they are now owing her money from last year as well. The whole setup of experienced people in this Country who are not paid what they are worth is disgusting and it all stems from the policies of this Government.

1st stage pay increase for Nurses was due in April May of this year - the ones I know are STILL WAITING for that first stage. Why oh why keep re-electing these muppetts. They are all the same and none can be trusted. Next election, keep the margins tight and make them listen to US for a change.

The government are rotten. They have refused to give the police officers their payrise (again) even though in 1979 they were under an agreement that they would always get the inflation rise automatically because they have no right to strike. The unions now have to go to arbitration again this year and fight for what they should be automatically entitled to.
They try to walk all over the police because they know they can't strike.

C'mon Pedro, G Brown and the rest of them are screwing everyone in the country, they are politicians, all they care about is linig their own pockets.

He said something else re a referendum on the Euro fiasco, strange how that has changed now, its apparently a treaty and therefore we dint need a referendum. Hmmm a case of back tracking me thinks yet again

Wage increases go towards higher cost of living, so wages go up, so does the cost of living and round in a vicious circle we go.
A rise in the cost of living will cause consumerism to rise and so shops will higher their prices and inflation will rise. Then interest rates will have to be raised to stave off the rise in inflation. This was evident in the 1990s when Thatcher and Major, along with Lawson and Lamont, brought the UK to it's knees and on the road to financial ruin.
Live now, pay later, or boom and bust is a legacy of the Tories and something that Gordon Brown wants to avoid.

Grow up. Westminster has been living off the Scottish oil revenue for years, 47% of the UK forces are scots, 63% of water supplied in the UK is Scottish, the whisky industry alone contributes 23 BILLION a year to the UK taxation coffers. Get over it, the pay was agrred by regional unions.

What you are saying is bordering on racism.

EDIT

Succesful Scottish sportsman = British success
Succesful Welsh sportsman = British success
Succesful English sportsman = Amazing English Icon

Rest my case

But I do think Brown like his predecessor will screw the average UK citizen at every opportunity.
