A role model ?!! - they guy was a terrorist - and what he and his ex-wife Winnie got up to was unbelievable...What next - a statue of Gerry Adams and Ian Paisley....gracing the entrance of Westminster.. I take it Red Ken was responsible for this gross miss-use of Tax Payers money..which could have been put to better use - say to finance some inner city community centre... I give up...who cares the UK has gone Bonkers...

I thought that when i saw it on the news last night. Great guy who will go down in history and all that, but why do we have a statue of an African statesman in London. Also it struck me that the best we could do for our own much loved Diana, was a pathetic trickle of water they called a fountain and it never even worked properly!

See!! people just don`t get it do they? It`s not that i have one bad thought for the man... BUT HE ISN`T ENGLISH! That`s the point.
Yes a statue of him, but in South Africa.
We should be more patriotic. What a shame.
This is what it wrong with England :-(

Exactly what the woman answered you. A positive role model. Mr Mandela speaks of success over oppression and segregation. A wonderful role model for all.

They'd better make the statue large so nobody can put an old tire around it and set it on fire. They called that form of execution "the necklace". That's they kind of torture and public executions that went on in the apartheid era tribal struggles that his ex-wife (?) Winnie condoned in a speech before cameras. I believe that was the beginning of her downfall.

One of the greatest men who has lived in our lifetime..... An inspiration, a role model, a person who fought for what he believed in and was right, a man who we should all thank for making the world that little bit better. That's what its about.

He was a good guy, humble, etc. He was president of my country. Despite what the guy did when he was younger...but to be peaceful and not full of ate when you come out of jail...now that's quite something.
