I have to write an essay about How a picture tells 1000 words. I have just relised that when we watch the news or read the paper, We DO get a picture but we are being told the wrong 1000 words. Either we get half the story, half the picture, the wrong picture, or a story twisted to suit the media's view!!! Does anyone have any examples of this??? If so can they add a link?(and if you want, your opinion )

Look, as a member of the media, I'm sick and tired of people saying that the media is out to get people, or that we're telling you what to think, or that we're a secret branch of the government out to brainwash America into thinking the same thing so that you all turn into drones. I'm working hard to become a journalist, and I can gaurentee that there's no secret society in the media, we don't have cult meetings and sacrifice animals. Really, the media is just another profession out to serve the public good.
It is true that stories are getting shorter and shorter, and that news comes in 'chunks' more often now. This isn't because we want to brainwash people, or because we're lazy. It's because that's what the majority of consumers want. Viewers often don't have a lot of time to watch the news, so they want all the news in a half hour bite-sized package so they can watch it and then get back to work. Really, most people in the media hate doing this. It often leaves important stories uner-covered, and other stories not covered at all.
I love how you say that stories are twisted "to suit the media's view." Let me settle another misconseption. 'The media' does not have a view. People talk about 'the media' as if it were one entity that was capable of thoguht and brainwashing people. Really, the media is made up of individual people with individual opinions. We can present these opinions in different ways (FOX tends to sensationalize a little bit more, CNN goes more in-depth, etc.), but the opinions are all different. 'The media' does not have one view. While I am a member of the media, I have my own thought process, and I plan on using it, thank you.
Please stop supporting media hate. The reason why you get 'half-stories' is because that's what the vast majority of the public wants. Also, it's because most media consumers don't care about national news, and don't even know what international news is. Too many people are demanding that the media cover things like American Idol and Hollywood gossip, and too many good journalists are putting their talents to waste in those fields.
Finally, remember that you are in control of what the media airs. If you want to see more international news and less Hollywood BS, watch more shows like CNN and less Entertainment Tonight. Better yet, email your news station and let them know what you think.
Hope that helped. Please remember that 'the media' does not think alike, and we're not out to twist news events so we can advance some secret agenda. We're really just workers and servants to the public, providing our consumers the information they want to hear.

The mainstream media is extremely biased, opinionated, and tries hard to sway public opinion towards the left (i.e. Liberals). They are trying very much to influence how people will vote in the 2008 election.
In addition the mainstream media (ABC, CBS, NBC, NY Times, etc) try very much to create the impression that only celebrities and famous people are worth anything, and the news they present is often sensationalized (so called Breaking News turns out to be nothing). And news happening in the rest of the world is non-news to the media.
If you want real news, you power up your computer, call up a web browser and go on to the internet.

The media no longer wants to report a balanced, informative view of "news" but wants you to buy their brand of newspaper or watch their version of the TV Broadcast.
I smile now, when I am told I can watch a "preview" of what's in tonight's news programmes. Surely that makes it a documentary not a news broadcast!

Of course it is manipulative, the question is for what purpose. Normally it is to sell more news, but bad people can distort the news for other purposes.
