All adult men, pretty much, get a woodie during REM sleep. On average about 9 times a night. It is normal. You dont try to fix something that isnt broken.
I can't imagine why it is bugging you. I mean, he is aleep, right? Just roll over and ignore it.

Men wake up with hard-on in the morning due to the collection of urine in the their bladder. This puts pressure on the Urethra and Prostrate and in turns constricts the muscle that causes the hard on. It is very normal.

The blood keeps circulating and it carries oxegen to keep the spongy tissue, that absorbs the blood to give a hard on, in good working order.

I have heard it is because the penis is basically a muscle. It needs to keep itself healthy by "working out". As such, the male body gives itself erections in order to keep itself in top-quality condition.
Its perfectly normal. It happens to almost all men. Don't let it bother you. It's always your choice as to if you wish to have sex.
