The last baby I had (my 2nd) weighed 11lb 6 1/2 oz at 39 weeks and caused me major complications (haemorrage due to overextended uterus and extensive vaginal wall tearing thanks to a very fast 2nd stage). What are other people's knowledge on subsequent babies getting bigger. My partner and I are planning on having another baby soon but im not sure whether its such a great idea. I'm also scared if we do have another one that it will shoot through me again as I seem to have quick labours. Any info would be very appreciated.

The theory that 2nd or subsequent babies are always bigger than first is just a myth and has not been proven as factual so don't worry about that!
I know plenty of women that had big babies the first time and gone on to have smaller babies next time, me included!
The biggest difference was a friend of mine which was 10pd 1st time and 6pd 2nd time.
Next time you fall pregnant, your doctor should be keeping a very close eye on you as to baby size through measuring and ultrasound and if you feel at all worried about it speak your mind and do not let them 'assure' you if you have a gut instinct.
My best friend had a 10pd baby born by emergency c-section after 26hrs of labour and she had haemorrage and major muscle tears and so on, but she is pregnant with her second now and they have told her she has a better than 70% chance of a successful VBAC and baby isn't measuring out of the ordinary so fingers crossed!
Don't worry about it until it happens and speak to your doctor. You may benefit from a scheduled c-section if the same is likely to happen again.

Good luck and have fun TTC!!!

It is very likely. With my second she was taken at 37 weeks because she was measuring too big and I had tachycardia so the Dr. wanted to get her out before she was over 10 lbs! She ended up being 8 lbs at 37 weeks!

We are TTC#3 right now and my Dr. has already told me that we will induce again at 37 weeks if need be.

Maybe you should go discuss this with your OB/GYN so he/she can give you their opinion and possible options for you and your partner.

Best of luck!

I have always heard that babies get larger with every preg but this is my story. 1st baby boy was 4 wks early and 11lbs...... 2nd baby boy was 2 weeks early and 8.4 lbs........ 3rd baby girl was right on time and 10.8..... The only thing I did different in any preg. was my last. I was smoking and not eating as well as last 2. So, I have no logical explanations for this.

My first baby, a girl was 6lb 6oz, my second baby, a boy was 9lb 11oz, and my third baby, also a girl was 7lb 6oz. My doctors seem to think it is more sex related in my case so when i deliver my fourth in around April next year we will test that theory!
