i'm native american and it took the whole nation to raise me. i respect my elders (parents, aunts, uncles, grandparents) because they raised me and they know more than i do. they have lived twice as long or longer than i have, so they have that much more life experience. I have learned by listening to them that when you truly listen and understand when someone is giving you advice, you can avoid some truly traumatic problems.
I avoided teen pregnancy (unlike 90% of native american girls) by listening to my grandmother. I finished college (unlike 99% of native american girls) by listening to my mother. I avoided enlisting in the marines by listening to my veteren grandfather. I avoided credit card debt by listening to my father (and by observing my other relatives in my generation who didn't listen to our mutual elders, but who received the same advice)
they only have gone through high school and college, got married, had children and lived life from the depths of despair and at the hights of joy. why shouldn't i respect them?

I was raised to treat my elders with respect. I still respect people older than me (67) just because they're older - it seems the right thing to do.
Seniors deserve respect because they have worked hard and contributed to the world. (If they haven't, they don't deserve respect!) Now we are slowing down, sometimes we may not be feeling too well, even tho it doesn't show.
We have the weight of the world on our shoulders - we know more about the world just from having lived so long. We have lived through trouble and survived.
In my experience, some younger people treat us with more respect than others. My own children do not treat us with as much respect as I did, or think I did, for my parents.
Maybe my parents would have disagreed!
I'd love to see what other seniors think.

Length of days. Life experiences. Love. Knowledge. Knowing that someday I too will be senior citizen and want to be treated with respect and caring.

Seniors are to be respected and honoured by their jumiors.
They are aged and experienced which could help us avoid the pitfalls. They are like the big trees giving shelter and fruits.By fruits we mean their crystalized experience that guides us.They have passed through the school of hard knocks and gathered much useful knowledge.Above all, age has taught them to be patient and persevering. They could be our fiends, philosophers and guides.

They're the generation that built this country over the past 80 or so years, invented so much, tried to instill morals and point out right from wrong.
