I just bought one, and it came with a little cloth and said not to use anything but a little water and wipe the screen in a clockwise direction.

Use a soft cloth (microfiber or cotton) dampened with water, or some soap solution (liquid hand soap)
It should be damp enough to actually wet the screen but not so wet that water will run down the screen.
If you have a more stubborn mark then you can try some rubbing alcohol on the same type of cloth.
The wipes sold for cleaning glasses or monitor screens also should be good.
Do not use:
paper towels - they are abrasive.
dish detergent - it has abrasive salts in it.
household cleaners - they can contain damaging chemicals.

"Flatscreen Monitor" as in CRT or are you talking bout a TFT / LCD.
To be on the safer side do not use any glass clearners. You can prepare a very very mild soap solution, dampen a soft cloth with in and rinse well and wipe it a couple of times.
Finally wipe with a soft dry cloth.

A tiny drop of washing up liquid on a wet kitchen paper towel and then dry straight away with clean dry paper towel.
Be gentle they are fragile, no scrubbing.

You can probably use one of those Windex wipes. Those dry quick and don't leave marks.
