I am looking for rock and metal bands that combines new rock and metal with old rock and metal.
At the moment I am really into Trivium- The crusade
Avenged sevenfold- City of evil

In other words something like trivium that combines 80's thrash metal with a modern style of metal.

Please help. I am so tired of bands that has forgotten how powerfull a riff is or a awesome solo can be.

Other bands that I have in my HUGE collection and that I love is......

Pantera, Metallica, System of a down, Atreyu, Chimaira, Norther, Arch enemy, Children of Bodem, Soulfly, Machine head, Seether, Smile emty soul etc.

I have about 800 albums ranging from early 80' to 2007 at the moment.

I have the new Machine head album and it is the best they have done so far.

Love system's earlier albums.

Atreyu is an awesome band: Best album: The curse

Thanks for all the answers so far.

Listen to Machine heads new album the Blackening, it is one of the greatest albums I have ever heard. Awesome riffs, great solos and songs that get faster and heavier towards the end. ;-]

Ps well done to the lads from Machine head for the best album award at the K awards;-]

EDIT: Already have it mmm! Try any Dry Kill Logic album, their top class too;-]

If it's rock with great riffs and solos you're after, try a band called "The Living End". They're not metal at all, they're actually closer to rock-a-billy. But don't let that put you off, their guitarist Chris Cheney can really shred like no-one else. their best album is their self-titled one, but they're all pretty good.
Another band that hasn't been mentioned yet is Bullet for my Valentine, from the UK. I dunno if you've heard of them, but they've got a lot of that old 80's thrash metal, but have a distinctly modern sound.

Check out the new Dinosaur Jr. It's a reunion album but it's still pretty awesome, J Mascis guitar playing is just sick.
