middle school they had earthquake drills and fire drills, of course. After 9/11 they had a few drills called "lock down" or something like that where all the kids had to sit in the middle of the classrooms on the floor with the lights off and doors locked. There were chain link fences around the school to keep us in and others out. also...they started enforcing visitor's passes so that people wouldn't wander around if they weren't supposed to be there. in high school we had fire drills, and strict visiting rules - teachers or deans would patrol campus so people couldn't just walk onto our campus. now, in college, there are phones set up around campus to call the campus police in case of emergency. they provide shuttles to take students from classes to bus/muni stops if their classes are late or if students feel unsafe walking around alone. that is all.

the kids used to line up outside, now they go straight
inside to the gym. parents canno't go in the school you
have to say goodbye at the door. all the doors are locked
and you can only go in the main enterance, which you have
to be buzzed in for. they also have an aid at a desk as soon
as you walk in, you need to sign in first.

when i went to school it wasn't a concern. as i got older and into high school, we had open campus; you could leave for lunch, people walked all over freely, hitch hiking was considered safe!....the good old days!☺

we pretty much have cops all around
patrolling the school
plus we all have id's
and if someone doesn't have one
they aren't allowed in
we also have fire drills and lock downs
and they randomly search our lockers
