While in the past banks operated only Mon-Fri, 9-5, many these days (in the United States especially) are open until 6pm or even later on weekdays and have at least some hours of operation on Saturdays (generally 9-1 or 9-2).

This doesn't really include any of the non-major banks of course. Bank of America, Wells Fargo, etc will likely have these extended hours, especially at larger branches, whereas smaller banks and credit unions most likely won't, since obviously the amount of business done doesn't merit the labour costs. ;)

It depends to which bank you go to, Usually most of the banks are open from Monday to Friday, But with our bad economy, some banks are open on Saturdays for half a day, they call it customers service but actually it's one way of luring more customers

No, although in recent years some banks open for a few hours Saturday morning, but you can't do all normal transactions.

I hope not! I had direct deposits scheduled for the first of every month but on January 1, 2016 the first fell on Friday, New Year's Day. Therefore, my direct deposits won't be posted until Monday January 4, 2016. Meanwhile, I scheduled payments for that Friday the first of January and now my checking account is overdrawn. Ouch!

Even though many are open part of the day, you will notice that transactions post as of the next business day.
