it all depends where you work and the rules of that place and the insurance requirements for working on that place or site

the rules for breaking the safety and dress code can result in you being fired straight away with no other warnings

check with your employers if in doubt

Outdoor workers need to wear hi-vis jacket (and often hard-hat) yes but don`t know about fines. It depends on the part of the world I guess ,some countries have stricter legislations. However if the company has a decent safety policy then they should discipline the offender accordingly.

In the UK it all depends on the circumstances. Not for office work, certainly, but it is often company policy to require them on industrial or building sites etc for 'elf & safety reasons. It's so the worker is visible to the operators of moving machinery. They are required in all circumstances for workers on or beside the highway and the employer can be prosecuted if he allows workers not to wear one. A lot of employers have a policy of "no hard hat, no safety boots, no fluorescent jacket, no job!"

No it's not a rule for ALL Workers. Oh, and by the way, I see lots of council people wearing them, but doing absolutely no work.

In areas where the wearing is compulsory the most likely thing to happen is a telling off if you don't have one on and sent to get it. In worst case dismissal could follow

I work, and I don't need one in my office :-)

anyway, you dont say what part of the world you're in. Different countries (and - in the USA - different states) may have completely different health and safety laws

No. I don't wear one in the office, and most, but not all, surgeons refuse to wear them.
