Frankly I've written all the big news corporations off. I use Google news and Reuters to get an overview of what's going on in the world, and then I go and look for commentary and analysis on the stories that I think are important. I try to watch/read at least two or three of these from different sources to get a kinda-balanced mean. In the modern news-as-entertainment-as-propaganda-and-advertising, this is the only way to get even a sniff of a balanced view.

Fox's popularity is due considerably to the fact that they are the only major news source that has any real conservative slant whatsoever. The other four are fighting over the liberal populace, while Fox has the monopoly on the conservatives.
And it gets a bad rap, in part, because the other four gang up on it. Rightfully so at times.

In recent years the Mormon Church and it's members, the Latter-day Saints (or LDS), has attempted to convince the public that this church is a legitimate Christian organization, I am no expert, but the literature abounds to support the claim I post here that Mormonism absolutely is NOT Christian. The reason it is important to continue to expose the reality of this organization is that the Mormon church has been highly successful in deceiving the public into believing that Mormonism is Christian. Today, many people believe this organization to be just like any other main stream Christian religion. However, quite the opposite is true. When the true beliefs of Mormonism are listed, there is little doubt that this organization is far from being Christian. Following are the things Mormon missionaries WON'T tell you when they come to your door:

The answer is simple: Fox News (or Faux News, as I like to call it) asserted it's okay to lie and call it news.
http://www.projectcensored.org/publications/2005/11.html
"In February 2003, a Florida Court of Appeals unanimously agreed with an assertion by FOX News that there is no rule against distorting or falsifying the news in the United States."
(Edit)
I think it's interesting that I got a thumbs down for my answer considering that it's factual (I even supplied a link). I guess it was a Fox News fan who did it since they're not too fond of the truth.

Because, Fox News doesn't simply report the news, they work to shape people's opinions, and when they do that using fudged facts, it's just plain wrong. I've seen arguments against CNN and MSNBC, and although Tucker Carlson on MSNBC made some pretty good points in his critique of CNN's "God's Warriors" special, I don't think either of those two networks are in the business of just making stuff up, or using questionable information in order to advance an agenda. Fox News does that, and that's why they suck.

The FOX conservative slant is much steeper than the slight liberal slant of the other outlets. I still don't watch any cable news because either way you're getting a distorted report, but people like Hannity and O'Reilly are just plain stupid.

You state "The fact is news is money now."
I think the answer to your question comes from flipping two words - I would suggest that the fact is that 'money is news now'. One of the issues with Fox news is where their bias comes from. It is more of purchased airtime with an intent to convince that is more akin to a commercial than an information program. They seem to have a significant bias. This is not a bad thing when it is acknowledged - but when it is wrapped in the flag and sold like a WalMart special - that's troubling.

2 examples.
A: Last year one of their "News" reporters was caught taking money from the bush folks to run propaganda as actual news.
B: The second is a small personal observation I caught early one morn. During the intial shock and awe campaign of Iraq we thought we had saddam's local pinpointed. We bombed it.Literally minutes after a lady on fox... I forget the name of the show but it airs ruffly 4 am and consists of two men and a lady... Anyhow, minutes after the bombing she flat out states the fox network has uncovered that saddam was gravely wounded in the attack and spirited out of the country by either the french or the russians to be taken care of in their country. I was dumbfounded and ran off to the web to get more info. Long story short... BALD FACED LIE. So... they have lost all credibility with me. Couple all that with the fact they are owned and operated by newscorp... well, hate fox.
I get a thumbs down for stating facts that are a matter of public record?
Republicans are odd ones.
