I don't know what you're talking about!
puppies and kittens have pretty-much the same needs and personalities throughout their lives, with only few differences:
both kittens and puppies are like babies and they need lots of care and attention;
you have to clear the house of all things that could harm them (small objects that could choke them, anything that could poison them),
you have to supply them with a ton of toys and play with them constantly because they are both very active throughout life,
both should be trained to basic tricks (my cat knows some basics like he can down, come, sit, and heal on his leash, however he is still being trained to do a few more things...my dog is well trained with all the basics and can do a few easy tricks like shake, roll-over, and play dead; her training is over),
both need to have vet visits and shots and be spayed/neutered
when they get older, puppies need to be walked everyday and kittens can be walked (mine is) however if not walked then kittens need stimulation in the house (ie: toys, play, etc..)
the only thing I've come to notice between my cat and my dog is that my dog costs me more for toys and vet bills, and she prefers to be by herself in the corner chewing on her kong toys rather than to sit with me and watch tv
and that my cat is better behaved than my dog (follows directions on the first command and easier to train) and he follows me everywhere (loves car rides, cries when I try to leave without him) Really, I treat my kitten the way most people should treat their dogs, and I treat my dog equally to my kitten: they are both spoiled with love and attention yet well-trained, well-behaved, and well-kept members of the family
however, it really is a personal choice...I can see how they are both great pets, I love mine both...why not just go to the shelter, look at both their cats and their dogs, and see if any particular kitten or puppy interests you? For you it may not be a matter of "which species of animal do I want," it might be more of "what kind of personality do I want my pet to have"
and personality knows no bounds of species! If you want a lap pet, that could be a certain dog or a certain cat; if you want a playful get-up and go kind of pet that could be another certain dog or another certain cat!
good luck!

There is no such thing as a puppy that doesn't grow up to be an adult dog. All living babies grow up!
Puppies are cute, personable and lots of fun BUT they are hard work and you MUST have the time for them. From day dot they need walking, training, grooming and feeding. You need to be on the ball with puppy training and have the time to invest in it ~ otherwise you will end up with an unruley adult dog and it makes me SO mad when people blame the dog.
You also have to understand that with a puppy you have to go through the "teething" stage where from about six months to two years it will chew, dig & destroy everything in its path! It's normal "baby" behaviour so be prepared!
Kittens are beautiful but they too grow up to be cats. A kitten is playful like a puppy but isn't as demanding ~ doesn't require walks or much training. Kittens can still cause trouble with "growing pains" seeing them tear strips off couches and rip curtains but they are unlikely to dig & chew like a puppy.
Ultimately you will end up with a dog or a cat, not a puppy or a kitten.
A dog must be walked and requires one on one time with you ~ they crave attention. When you go away, whether it's for the weekend or a couple of weeks, your dog will need to be farmed to friends or kennelled, which can be quite stressful for them.
A cat, on the other hand, is undemanding time and attention wise, and will happily spend a weekend at home with just the neighbour popping in once a day to feed them.
Whatever your choice, please remember: a pet is for life, not just for christmas. Good luck choosing!

Well, you really need to consider your lifestyle. A kitten will be more independent, won't need constant attention, and is relatively easy to take care of and raise.
Puppies require quite a bit more training and you need to be able to be home to let them out every few hours (apparently you can litter box train small dogs though). So, they are higher maintenance, but I would still get one over a kitten if I were you because puppies are more loving, you can do more with them, and they will show you much more affection. Best of luck with your decision!

Definately a puppy, as you can grow with the puppy, train it and enjoy the changes as it grows up, a kitten is much more independant. The saying is a Dog has a master but a cat has servants
I have a female dog(Huntaway x Black Lab) and one of her pups(father Huntaway x German Shepherd) and they are great dogs , friendly and loyal, great with kids, mu youngins r 9 & 4

I suppose that someone else can't answer that for you. Puppies grow to be dogs and kittens to cats, but some breeds of dog are smaller than others and will stay that way.

several factors play in your decision!
how much are you home?
do you have time to potty train a puppy?
if you dont kittens use a litter box.
would your dog need to be left in a kennel if you werent home for long periods of time if he wasnt potty trained?
>not fair to the puppy.
depends on your schedule and the time your willing to sacrafice.
Both are wonderful pets! I have 2 cats and 3 dogs.

All puppies grow up to be adult dogs, and all kittens grow up to be cats.
It really depends on your preferences and lifestyle.

Kittens, are less work & responsibility, and require less care (aka no bathing, brushing, hair cutting ect.) but they tend to be more independant than most animals. They don't 'need' you, except for food and water -- now this is just a typical 'attidute' of cats.. My cats however, are not at all like this.. They cuddle, and and love and are 'aww' like.. but this is odd to find.
Dogs, are a lot of work! Especially small breeds, which are prone to more health problems, and require more grooming needs. They need to be, fed, watered, walked, groomed, bathed and loved.. So they are obviously alot more time consuming than other animals.. But they are also, loving, forgiving, loyal and sweet.. And most dogs tend to become 'part of the family' to the majority of dog-owners..
So, I guess it just depends :)

Instead of a kitten or puppy you should get a cat or dog. Many animal shelters kill animals if they can't find homes for them and most people want baby animals.
