Hey all! My parents have been very nice and wanted me to stay home and commute first year of college...and I did...and I had trouble making good friends. Then I dropped my friend off at college and saw dorm life and had to say I am JEALOUS! I want to go! I was gonna stay home this year but now want to leave...so if I can get housing by Winter/Spring...should I move out then or wait till next year? I would waste 2 years that way..but I don't want it to be awkward if everybody is already friends and I am breaking in...Should I do it during this year or wait till fall? PS I am really young and would be probably younger than everyone if I moved in next year! :P

You do seem to have friends (those whom you dropped off), so even if you are younger than the others, I think you could fit in. If you are emotionally mature enough to handle the craziness that goes on in dorms on occasion, and your parents are okay with it, I would go ahead and move in whenever you feel like it and are able to.

i think you should move in as soon as possible. college dorm life is quite an experience. and its especially good when its your first time at that school. its a way to network and meet people. It okay if you move in winter or spring term. my roomie did it and it was perfectly fine. a lot of ppl won't know that you moved in unless you RA makes an annoucement or introduces you in a hall meeting or something. but that shouldn't stop you. you can just go around your hall and introduce yourself. no harm in that.
