hello i want to format c drive through cammand prompt, what the cammand line please help me

Make yourself a DOS boot disk. See the link below. Then, reboot into the boot disk and enter the following command:

Format C: /S /U /Q

You want to do this because if you are in Windows, Windows won't let you format itself while it is running.

Using the download link listed below, format using the Windows 98 image. However, I am curious what you want to format. DOS format has limitations. If you have a large hard drive you might be limited to 2GB or 30 GB depending on which format command you use. If you have another drive and want to format a new drive, make the new drive a slave to your system. Format it using Windows and choose the file system you want, such as FAT32 or NTFS. If you have more space than DOS will allow then create smaller partitions. Otherwise, you may be able to format the drive but your BIOS or DOS won't let you see more than it can handle.

well u didnt told which OS u r using 98 or xp

and second u cant format c drive standing on c prompt.

boot ur system from 98 disk ,go to win98 folder in CD and type from that location
FORMAT C:/S/V

if u r using xp then boot from xp bootable cd
XP have the option to format c partition or any other partition
u r using
just follow those steps.

format C:

Note: If you have booted from C drive, don't format C drive.
Boot from floppy and then format C Cdrive.

FORMAT C: /s/U
/S= SYSTEM /U = unconditional.
