Pc is good for only gaming purpose and for life long use.
If you want something exciting with mobility choose laptop.
Their are many profits of laptops like you dont need to do extra things like making dvds and then downlnading it. You have to just connect and get whatever you want. And it is good for making impression.
I am telling configuration to avoid upgradation sooner.
For desktop- Intel core2 duo (latest is core 2 quad) processor with 4 mb l2 cache, ram 2 gb, upgradable upto 4 gb.
Sata 160 gb minimum. 17 or 19 TFT lcd screen, a good grafics card. Choose nvidia geforce series 8 minimum. Because it is direct x10.
Choose assambled pc, that will cost you less and you can get what you want.

In laptop choose intel core 2 duo, 15.4 screen and most important (for gaming) is pci express card slot.
512 or 1 gb ram is sufficient. With 80 to 120 sata.

PC always better than Laptop... coz laptop for the peoples that travels a lot that need to use a computer... if most of the time you will use ur computer at home, i suggest you to buy a PC.. Basic requirement of a pc, is Intel Pentium Duo Core, 2.0 Ghz, 512MB, 120Gb Harddisk, 3D graphics card..example like Nvidia Geforce, no need too high spec.. support for 3d games and graphics will be enough.. if you prefer to play a lot of game, then u may need 1GB RAM DDR2,... for graphic card, up to you either ATI or Nvidia...
About durability, for sure Desktop is better.. I have been using my desktop for 5 years... still perform well make sure that ur HDD is 8400rpm.... better than 5400rpm...OK??

PC. Notebook computers burn out quicker because they have a much harder time venting heat. Heat kills electronics. A desktop PC with two case fans and a large case to move large volumes of air will extend you PC's life.
