Will direct sunlight 9 hours a day damage my portable DVD players LCD screen, and would an LCD screen even be viewable in direct sunlight?

Why do you even do that? When you use your LCD screen under high temperatures, the liquid crystal in your screen will break, exposing a black liquid on your screen, which could not be fixed. You'd have to buy another. (F.Y.I.: LCD stands for Liquid Crystal Display. Exposing it to direct sunlight for 9 hours would increase the temperature of the liquid, which in turn breaks the glass that encloses it.)

But you wouldn't have to put it under direct sunlight, because in the first place, the video of the LCD screen would be clouded by the brighter light of the sun.

I hope you get what this means.

Most active LCDs are not visible in direct, bright sunlight.

There are some hybrid screens out there that will work in sunlight and with a backlight, but they are not particularly common.

An LCD panel has multiple layers of glass and plastic. Any plastic is going to be degraded and damaged by exposure to the UV rays in direct sunlight.
