AARrrgghh!!! Why did I find this question at 7:00 p.m.??? I leave my office at 8:00 and the sun is always down by then this time of year. The landlords are so unresponsive to my requests for fixing the light sensitive permanent fixtures in this complex. The street I work on is mostly barren (there is an empty, expansive field right behind me, for example) and so there are no other businesses to light the road. When there is no moon it becomes ABSOLUTELY PITCH BLACK. I can't even see my hand in front of my face and I have to walk from the office to my car. TERRIFYING. I swear one of these days they're gonna find me lying in the parking lot rendered unmovable from the heart attack I had the night before. I do carry a flashlight but am also a fraidy cat to use it because then I feel like one of those ditsy girls in the horror movies just BEGGING TO BE KILLED. AARrggh. And...now....after reading all of these answers (here at the office by the way) I think I'll just spend the night and go home in the morning....partially kidding...*4U!

For sleeping? No. The darker, the better.
For finding my way to a light switch? Not afraid of the dark so much... more the objects I'm apt to trip over on the way to the light switch.

Only if I have something to be afraid of, but the trust and honesty in my heart and soul i have for my higher power to protect me there isn't any reason as an adult.to be afraid unless there is trauma in my life but i have worked that out with God.Ive been robbed at knife point in my home , In the past I have been mentally, physically, sexually been abused at night ,after extended help later myself, and for my,, two sisters I cant speak for them , I'm so old now Death is around the corner anyway, i have nothing to fear but fear its self, I'm going to live positive, and try to be a humble person and if someone needs help to talk ,Alcoholism or drugs i was there for 40 years and it is a blessing that i have been clean for 4 years, if I let go of my faith and recovery , the only thing I would be in store for is jails/ Institutions / or Death.

Depends where I am and who I'm with. If I am alone in the city...most definitely. Standing out in a pasture with 4 horses, not likely!
The regular animal I am not afraid of in the dark...it's the "human animal" that worries me.

No. It's not the dark you need to fear, but what's IN the dark. There are things hiding in the darkness that you do NOT want to know about, let alone meet. Sweet dreams little green one, we'll be calling on you. Haaa haaaa haaaaaaaaahaa

I love the dark. Why be afraid of what you can't see?

I was when I was younger so I had nite lights...I thought I grew out of it. But then recently we had a terrible storm & in the middle of the night it knocked out our power. It was in that week of rediculously hot weather, so I woke up really hot & it was pitch black. I was petrified I don't know why. but I felt like I wasn't alone...irry feeling...& to think I almost went to the haunted house "The Darkness" in downtown St. Louis last fall.

sometimes... but only when I can't sleep at night and I am sitting there in silence in the dark. Then I start to think about ghosts and I think that there are some in my room. Thats when the lights come on...
