3. Primer- A film that must be watched more than twice to catch all the layers you've previously missed. It is about time travel and all the theories and consequences that occur with it. The Prestige isn't as deep.

2. 2001: A Space Odyssey- A film that makes you look at technology that becomes conscious, and the evolution of man. Also deals with the question: Are we alone?

1. Ghost in The Shell- What makes us human? People are already getting robotic arms and stuff. http://www.cnn.com/2006/US/03/22/btsc.oppenheim.bionic/
Computer viruses are relatively new but can replicate themselves. So can machines. http://www.cnn.com/2005/TECH/06/02/tech.reprap/index.html The intro to this film shows computers and machines working together to create a being.

THE STATE WITHIN - Not a movie, but a very powerful 6-part BBC Mini-series that asks you to consider what it means to take it for granted, that the people whom you elect to positions of power are doing the best they can on behalf of the people...and what it means when they are corrupted by that same power.

THE LIVING AND THE DEAD - Difficult to watch, but worth it, because it's a horror movie about real life, not imaginary monsters or invisible forces.

BABEL - Amazing film about the ways in which people can be connected when they least expect it, and how the ability to communicate and understand each other is really our only hope for survival.

"American Beauty" (with Kevin Spacey) It's an interesting look at the dysfunction of the typical suburban family in America. It also makes you realize not only the beauty, but the horror in simple experiences throughout life.

"Contact" (with Jodie Foster) This film made me wonder about the possibilities of communicating with another planet. With so many languages, cultures, and values, how do we represent ourselves as a planet rather than an individual?

"What Dreams May Come" (with Robin Williams) This film is an eye opener because it paints a picture of how imaginative and powerful the human mind can be.
