Use spray dyes. They have them in fabric and craft stores. That way you can target your colors and not worry so much about the gradations that will occur on your straps and padding.
Or, paint designs using fabric paints or markers.

I used to use rubber bands to dye my tshirts back in the day. Maybe a thicker band? That would give a burst look on your pack.
Instead of dye, why not use fabric glue to apply the color of fabric you want onto your pack? you'll be able to cut out different shapes and sizes to apply to your pack.
I really can't help with dyeing your pack, but I can give other ideas.
When I was in the marines, we would have camo material to place on our packs. It was held there with an elastic band that was sewn into the material. Sorta like a shower cap fits onto your head.
But, there is some real good fabric glue out there that you can apply to have different types of material glued to your pack. Try a hobby store. Hobby Lobby or a Jo-ann's.
Try Aleene's No-sew Fabric Glue 4oz

You can dye it in a bucket with "Rit" dye...ive used it before, a lil messy but not too bad. Another popular one thats supposed to be simple to use is "Dylon" dye. You can find them at
www.joann.com
or try
www.michaels.com
Oh and stickers wont really work on a bookbag made of fabric, they'll start peeling off... try makin fabric circles and use a glue gun instead or theres a special kinda tape that you buy at those same stores, its suposed to replace things like sewing hems on clothes, you iron it between your surfaces and they stay together...
good luck

Hats off to him, in my opinion he did make some terrible choices in this world cup like persisting with Chawla in the group stages and picking Sreesanth over Aswhin for the final but he seems to have a lucky charm. However he should not be satisfied with this, he should try win more world cups for India.
